Congratulations to Carissa Moore for becoming the youngest ever ASP World Champion at the Roxy Pro in Biarritz last Friday.
Carissa who’s just 18 won her title in some style by reaching her sixth final in six events, breaking another ASP record. She’s also the first Hawaiian to win a world title since Margo Oberg in 1981.
Reigning world champ and four-time world title holder Steph Gilmore assured Carissa’s place in the surfing history books by beating her only title rival, Sally Fitzgiibbons, in the semi finals. That meant Carissa and Steph met in the finals, of which Steph Gilmore went on to win. However that didn’t dampen Carissa’s mood as she celebrated her world title win.
I’m now determined to get my 3 year old daughter out surfing this summer. Who know’s maybe in a few years time we could have a British world title holder?
