British Surf Film Festival

British Surf Film Festival - 22nd - 23rd Sept 2011

Do you love surf films? Are you fed up of watching surf movies online and on a tiny screen?

Then dust off your black tie ‘n’ boardshorts, and get yourself down to the British Surf Film Festival at the Lighthouse Cinema in Newquay, on 22nd-23rd September 2011.

Yes that’s right. After 16 years there is now a cinema in Newquay, so where else would you host a British Surf Film Festival? Along with showing some great surf films, the festival includes a film maker competition and surf photo exhibition.

Surf movies

Join 200 salt water lovers for a visual feast of classic and contemporary surf flicks. See them splashed across a 30x70ft silver screen at the shiny new Lighthouse Cinema for two whole days. And feed the soul with majestic moving images at this surf cultural extravaganza.

In between screenings, there will be Q&A sessions with filmmakers and notable surfers. As well as introductions and discussions with surfing’s elite. If that’s not enough…

Surf film and surf legend

Soul Surfer - The Film

The headline act for this fabulous festival will be the UK premiere of Soul Surfer, the inspirational and humbling story of living legend Bethany Hamilton. If that’s not thrilling enough, event organisers have put the word out that Miss Hamilton will actually be there!

So run along, watch her film, be enlightened and prostrate yourself at the feet of this awe-inspring avatar of women’s surfing.

British Surf Film Makers

If you’re a budding British surf film maker you’d be mad to miss the Homegrown Board Shorts Film Competition, in association with Cornwall Film Festival. It gives the watermen of film an opportunity to win:

• 1st Prize – a holiday in Morrocco with £500 and a contract to be a videographer
• Rising Star award – HD Bullet camera
• Runners up – air their creations in front of a large surf crazy audience

Get your entries in quick as submission period ends Thursday 1st Sepetmber 2011.

Surf photo fans

For the duration of the two day sensational surf film frolic, there will be a surfing photo gallery on display. As part of this surf culture crusade there will be a Homegrown Photography Competition, for those who like their images to sit still.

Surf party

As with all celebrations of our liberating lifestyle there will be a big party. On Saturday 24th September, the Cornwall Film Festival’s Board Shorts party will see some serious pant swinging at Lusty Glaze beach. With live musical and a second screening of all the short-film entries right on the sand, it promises to be a season finale to top all others.
