Who are Dewerstone?
Dewerstone are inspired by the Dartmoor landscape and work hard to be a meaningful member of the outdoors community. Founded in late 2013 by Rory Atton, they’ve slowly built a dedicated team of kayakers, climbers, skiers, surfers and outdoor adventurers. This crew likes to get their boots dirty.
What are Dewerstone about?
Dewerstone took their name from the legendary granite cliff in Dartmoor. With crystal clear rivers and woodland trails nearby it’s a magnet for climbers, kayakers, hikers and bikers. The company was created to serve the same bunch of outdoor adventurers, by placing ‘planet and product before profit’.
For Dewerstone it’s more than just a marketing slogan. They’ve committed to 1% for the planet initiative, where they donate 1% of their sales (not profit) to environmental non-profit organisations including Save Our Rivers and the Gili Eco Trust (who protect coral reefs near Lombok).
Not content with that, Dewerstone have also worked with Dartmoor Rescue Group and supported River Legacy saying they feel ‘privileged to be able to give something back’ to the community.
Still not convinced they’re the good guys? Go along and meet them at one of their monthly events. This month they had Dartmoor local Tom Rainey come in for an intimate screening of his Ocean Valour 2015 Documentary. Tom rowed unsupported for 93 days across the Atlantic, and raised £250,000 for the Brain Tumour Charity.
What have Dewerstone ever done for surfers?
Surfers are outdoor enthusiasts. We love and enjoy our natural environment as much as climbers, kayakers and hikers. We’re part of the same community Dewerstone support.
Surfers like manager Ewart Aylward are an integral part of the Dewerstone team. Naturally they want to develop fantastic products with the same values for surfers. And they have…
Dewerstone Life Shorts 2.0 have been painstakingly tested to be ‘the short we always dreamed of creating’. Made from recycled polyester and plastic bottles they’re eco-conscious. With 4 way stretch, quick drying fabric they’re great for watersports, and with a robust waist fastening and grippy waistband they won’t fall off when you wipeout.
They also do a very cool range of wooden and floating sunglasses with polarised Zeiss lenses. Perfect for gazing at sun infused waves.
Where can I find Dewerstone?
The new flagship store and coffee shop is located in Princetown, Devon. It’s the perfect location to start or end any adventure on the crags, moorland and rivers of Dartmoor. But if you’re not fortunate enough to live nearby or be passing, then go online to https://dewerstone.com
Disclaimer
I was gifted a pair of Dewerstone Life Shorts and they’re really nice. But all the words above are honest and I genuinely believe these are some of the good guys of surf and outdoor clothing. It’s not often you find a business who cares so much about the environment and actively supports the outdoor community. So I think they’re a discovery worth sharing. Hope you do too.
