I’m a father, surfer and writer.
Each role competes for my attention, and I struggle to keep all the boxes ticked.
Recently, I’ve been writing for a couple of other sites about parenthood and surfing. So I’ve kind of ticked all the boxes, at least in a literary sense:
1. Shurgard blog
Shurgard are in the business of self storage, but they also want to share useful and interesting stories. Like the “unexpected consequences of having kids” where I share the more positive parts of parenthood, for example “being young again”.Want to take off with an adrenalin junky? You might want to read my post “pros and cons of dating an extreme sports enthusiast” first, as it’s not all exotic beach holidays and buff bodies.
2. Mpora
MPORA are the company behind action sports magazines including Surf Europe, Cooler, Whitelines, Moto, Sidewalk and many more. If you’re into surfing, skating, snowboarding, BMX or MTB then they have a little something of what you fancy. And if you fancy reading some of my more wordy articles from the philosophical ‘Could surfing be a religion?’ to the mostly factual ‘4 filthy surf infections’ then get stuck in here.
I’ve enjoyed the challenge of writing for new audiences, and I hope you enjoy these articles too.
There’s more
I’m a very busy bunny at the moment, but I hope to soon share details of my family surf foray in Florida plus top tips on how to teach your kid to surf. So watch this space.
If you’ve got any interesting surf news to share or want me to write about anything specific, please get in touch.

Hi Paul, good luck with training your daughter to be your next best surf buddy. I’m not having much luck so far, but I haven’t scared her off yet either. So there’s still hope.
I’m putting together a post with tips on teaching your kids to surf soon. So any contributions gratefully received. Cheers
